For those of you that aren’t aware, we moved to Baylyn House very unexpectantly after an incredible opportunity was handed to us by my mum who offered to sell us her house for a bargain price as she had built a house (more on that soon…) & was going to downsize.
It’s safe to say we snapped her hand off. This house was the stuff of dreams for us & we would never have been able to afford to move to such a lovely location with the best schools locally.
I often get asked on Instagram about the flooring throughout the kitchen & lounge area so decided to tell you all the story behind those slightly battered looking floorboards as they are definitely one of my favourite parts of the house & hold very special meaning to me –
I grew up in a huge house about 20 minutes away from here, from birth to age 16, which my mum had converted the ground floor into a nursery school for 35 children Monday – Friday & we lived on the top floors. It was beautiful & I spent my childhood within those happy walls.
After a completely mindblowing offer, my mum decided to sell the house to planning developers with planning permission for 16 flats & ended up buying Baylyn House which was in need of a LOT of work.
Because the house was going to be knocked down, we were allowed to take anything we liked from it & so my mum being bargain-savvy (I wonder who I got it from…) took as much as she could to re-use including the staircase she now has in her newbuild, the kitchen in Baylyn House, the fireplace & most amazingly…..the floorboards.
As a child I used to run across these floorboards & although not in the same house; now my own children are doing the same 🙂

That is so lovely to think you have the same flooring as you grew up with. Heart warming indeed .
Beautiful story, love them even more x
