Rory’s Bedroom Makeover With GLTC

What do you get a 1 year old? I have toys coming out of my ears & he has enough clothes for ten outfit changes a day. A NEW BEDROOM, that’s what!!

You may have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet this week on Instagram & the blog….that’s because I’ve been super busy redecorating Elsa’s old bedroom into Rory’s NEW bedroom ready for his 1st birthday today & I finished last night after starting on Saturday.

You’ll be able to see some ‘before’ pictures of when it was Elsa’s room here.

This was a fairly easy project apart from one slight hiccup which delayed things slightly.

We decided to take out the right side built in wardrobe to free up more space also we barely use them as I am an anti-hoarder so it was wasted.

Unfortunately taking this out took half the wall (queue £150 plasterer expense) & the carpet now has a slight gap where it was fitted…although I’ve hidden that quite well.

I first started by painting the entire room white. I used Wilko’s cheapest white matt paint at £6.00 & regretted it immediately. Usually Wilko’s paint is great but this was like the ‘smartprice’ version which was just shocking & the coverage wasn’t great so it took 3/4 coats. It also went on really yellow but dried whiter.

Then painted the remaining built in wardrobe with ‘Paris Grey’ Annie Sloan chalk paint & Wilko’s chalkboard paint.

I roped in my mum to help me wallpaper one wall with this beautiful star print wallpaper from the Great Little Trading Co.

I also gave this bedside table & the top alcoves of the wardrobe a bit of a makeover with Annie Sloan & scraps of the GLTC grey star print wall paper. The bedside table will  have a bit of glass over the top which a friend is cutting for us as otherwise no doubt it’d mark easily. I varnished the top cupboards.

Finally it was the finishing touches so I painted these picture shelves (2x Ikea & 1x Homebase) in Annie Sloan, a barnstar & some other bits.

I decided to go with the grey & white star theme so the products from Great Little Trading Co went absolutely perfectly. I was amazed at what great quality everything was & how simple the toybox was to put together as I normally find you need a degree in brain surgery to put flat pack furniture together.

& here is the finished result which I’m absolutely in LOVE with.

I’ve now got the task of throwing a joint birthday party on Saturday so will be blogging about that next week!
