Your living room is the main area in your home to spend quality time with family, friends or even by yourself. Therefore it’s so important to be able to relax & feel confident in your surroundings (as well as house proud when you do have guests round!).
Updating your living room needn’t cost a fortune & I’ve come up with some handy suggestions on some affordable ways to turn it from drab to fab.
Firstly, assess your room & try to see it from a critical eye. If you have a brutally honest friend to call upon that you think has good style then call upon them to point out things you may not have thought about. What are the dull, lifeless parts of the room? What needs to stay & what needs to go?
1. Paint – now this isn’t necessarily the easiest or quickest project but it will make the biggest difference in a room. If your woodwork is yellowing or your wallpaper flaking then it’s time to do some DIY. A tin of paint can cost as little as £10.00 but make a huge difference.
2. Mirror – not only do mirrors look great & provide a focal point/statement piece but they also bounce light around a room so are perfect for making small spaces look bigger.
3. Get crafty – whether that’s hanging frames to create a gallery wall or upcycling an unloved piece of furniture. Browse Pinterest for all sorts of inspiration on turning junk into treasure.
4. Soft furnishings – cushions & throws can instantly change up a room. Instead of buying a new sofa why not change things up with some new cushions (you could even make your own – see my tutorial here). This is a great way to add colour to a room too without making too much of a commitment.
5. Accessories – finally, remember to add life to the room with new accessories which can be picked up in many hughstreet stores for great prices. From changing shades on lamps to adding picture frames to a sideboard or even purchasing candles & flowers. The skies the limit & will really make it feel like home.
