Organising Your Home In A Weekend*

If your home is overrun with items and personal belongings, now might be the ideal time for you to have a declutter ready for the spring and summer seasons. We all have things we live in the home, but when we collect a huge amount of items over the years it can get out of hand very quickly. Give yourself some time this weekend, get the rubber gloves on and let’s clear your home out.

One room at a time –

If you have so much stuff in your home that it is spilling into self storage; you need some serious help getting rid of some of your stuff to make room in your home. When it comes to clearing out the house, it is perfectly fine for you to work one room at a time. If you try to tackle the whole house in one fell swoop you might get overwhelmed- so for now just work on one room.

One item a day –

If you have a real problem with getting rid of things from your home you can try the method of getting rid of one item every single day. This could be anything from an old shirt, to a Tupperware tub or even an ornament. It will force you to take a look at your home every single day and work out what things you no longer need. It is a more gradual process which will make it easier for you to let go, and once you are done it will feel amazing.

The coat hanger trick –

If you are terrible with clothes, like many of us are, you will likely have a lot of items in your wardrobe which you don’t even wear. To try and clear it out you can take 10 minutes this weekend to turn all of your coat hangers around in your wardrobe so that you have to reach in and backwards to get your clothes out. The idea is that you can wear an item and then put it back in the correct way. After 3 months you will see which items you wear and which ones you haven’t touched, which you can throw out. Simple, right?

Think practical –

We all have this tendency to hold on to items which offer us some sort of sentimental value, however after a while the amount of things we keep for this reason gets out of hand.If you want to have a successful clearout of your things you need to think practical and decide what has a purpose in the home and what doesn’t. Once you have figured out what has a purpose, you need to move on and decide whether the other items hold enough memories to keep.

Be ruthless –

The only way you will get a clear home is by being completely ruthless and getting rid of absolutely anything you don’t need or love. If you can train yourself to just throw items out this weekend, you will notice that you don’t miss them at all. We tend to hold onto items because we are used to them being there, but when they are gone we don’t necessarily miss them at all.

Love,
