Front Door Love

I am a complete sucker for a pretty exterior & nothing beats a front door.

The front of your house & especially your door will be the first thing people see when they visit, or even strangers passing by. This makes it really important to give a brilliant first impression & make people want to peek through your window to see what interior hides behind that beautiful entrance (totally have never done this before in my life…Ok maybe 2 or 3 or 50 times).

The front door in my previous house was a definite labour of love & has now been replaced by the new owners (see, i’m totally nosey) as it definitely had it’s quirks like the door handle snapping off, getting stuck in winter so you had to give it a good kick or an enormous pull & other not so fantastic features BUT, I loved it.

It was actually a door I found on Gumtree from a house which was being demolished & I bought two of them for the porch for a grand total of £5. They were very old & needed a fair amount of TLC so I spent weeks sanding, priming, undercoating & then eventually painting with Farrow & Ball ‘Vert De Terre’ in Exterior Eggshell.

When we moved, I was still very much in love with the colour but knew Baylyn House needed something a bit more grand which also complimented the red brick & the typical Victorian colours in the stained glass rather than clashed. It was previously painted in a very strong green, which anybody that knows me will know, however lovely it was, definitely isn’t ‘me’ so I went with Farrow & Ball ‘Manor House Grey’, again in Exterior Eggshell.

In the end I ended up painting my hallway & downstairs WC in ‘Vert De Terre’ as I couldn’t part with it!

Here are some beautiful & inspirational doorways I’ve found online via Pinterest or Instagram that make my knees feel weak & heart skip a beat.

Which one’s your favourite?

Love, Charlotte x

I love the colour choice of your front door now, it looks gorgeous! The blue open door with the gorgeous glass panes has to be my favourite ~ the things I'd do for outside floor tiles like that! *swoon* ! X

What a shame that they replaced the door. It was fab how you did it. Really solid and stylish. Our house has upvc but was installed when I bought the house already. I wonder if I can refit a wooden door into the frame.

I do love a wooden door, I'd love a grey one with painted flowers all over it ?

UPVC definitely doesn't have the same effect does it! I know you can paint it though as dainty dress diaries did it (although no idea how it held up) so it might be worth having a go before you replace x

    One day I'm sure you'll have one & what a cheerful door it'll be 🙂 x

Hi, we have a similar coloured door and it's not me either. I'm hoping to paint it very soon, could you please explain the process you used to prepare your door for a new colour? I'm thinking about getting a handy man to do it, but wanted to find out if it would be worthwhile firstly. Hannah
