Don’t Make These Mistakes With Your Home Exterior*

Your home exterior, believe it or not, is one of the most important parts of your home. The exterior sets the tone before anybody even sets foot in your home, so it can make a big impression on guests – and even potential buyers, if you ever decide to go down that route. This is largely psychological. People may not know that they are making snap judgements about your home before they make them. This is why subtle changes and hints can make such a big difference, and even help you to enjoy your home even more.

There are a few mistakes that you can make with your home exterior if you’re unsure of what you’re doing. Below, you’ll learn of the most common mistakes so you can avoid them. Take a look:

  1. Not Lighting It Correctly

Your home must be lit correctly, not only so it looks great but so that you can stay safe! Lighting is key, and it can make your home look far more welcoming. It’s also so much better when the darker nights and days come back around, and can help to prevent any criminals from getting ideas. Having lighting to properly light the outside of your home will make a huge difference to appeal and safety.

  1. Not Numbering Your Home

You can buy so many attractive signs displaying your door number, that you’d be missing out not to have one. You make any visitors and the postman’s job easier, too.

  1. Leaving Repairs To Get Worse

It can be tempting to put off repairs if they don’t seem urgent, but you’re making your life harder in the long run. This is especially important when it comes to elements like the roof, that pretty much protect the entire house and its contents. Look into roof thatching maintenance or the type of maintenance work that you need to keep your home looking brand new and keeping your belongings safe. You really don’t want to have to deal with things like infestations and damp as well as a hole in the roof!

  1. Making it Look Too Different To Your Neighbours

You want your home to look its best, but making it stand out too much against your neighbours homes can make it look like it doesn’t belong in the street – this can actually reduce its value.

  1. Not Keeping It Clean

You don’t necessarily need brand new windows and doors and a huge fancy garden to have a beautiful home exterior. Sometimes all you need is a deep clean! Many homeowners don’t stay up to date with a good cleaning schedule. This can leave pavement slabs, guttering, and other elements of the home dirty and old looking. By giving the exterior a deep clean every so often, perhaps renting out a power washer to really blast clean those slabs, you’ll be amazed at how your home aesthetic can improve!

  1. Not Accessorizing

Accessorize the outside of your home just like you would the inside. Add cure figurines, water features, and seating. Make it an area you can really use and enjoy!
