The Secret Costs That You’re Probably Paying*

Trying to save money is an ongoing struggle and it’s easier for some of us than others. The best way of cutting costs is to write yourself a strict budget and stick to it. Make a note of all the costs that are essential and cut everything else out. The problem is, even if you do that, you might still be paying too much for some of your essentials. There might also be things that you’ve forgotten about, the small costs that add up over the days and weeks and actually end up costing you a lot more than you realize. If you really want to make savings, you need to get on top of some of these hidden costs.

Snacks

A sandwich or a cup of coffee only costs a few dollars, it isn’t going to make that much difference to your budget, right? Well, you’d be surprised. If you’re buying these kinds of snacks every single day, those costs will start to add up. If you checked, you’d realize that you’re probably spending upwards of a thousand dollars every year. You can easily cut this cost if you just make food at home and take it with you instead of buying it every day.

Energy Bills

Energy providers love to tell you how great the deal that they’re giving you is. They’re very convincing but they’re not always telling the truth. While it might seem like a brilliant offer, the truth is, you could be paying a lot more than you have to. Check sites like Selectra which can compare all of the different providers available to you and show you the best deal. You’ll probably be horrified when you realize how much you could have been saving all this time.

Impulse Buying

It’s an easy mistake to make and I’m sure we’re all guilty of it sometimes. People often fall into the trap of thinking that, because they’re making good savings everywhere else, they can afford to splash out now and again. This might be true if it actually were now and again. Before you know it, you’ll be buying stuff all the time and then you won’t really be saving any money, you’ll just be spending it on something else instead. It’s much better to add a small amount of money to your budget to cover a treat for yourself every once in awhile. That way you can keep a handle on what you’re spending.

Car Trips

Fuel is expensive these days and the price is rising year on year so using it when you don’t have to is going to put a strain on your purse. Obviously, there are going to be some journeys that can’t be avoided so you should factor them into your budget but you can get rid of a lot of them. Try walking to the shops if it’s close, even those trips are short, they’ll add up over time. You should also look into car sharing when you go to work, it could save you and your colleagues some money.

Whether you’re trying to save for home improvements or a holiday, or you just want to be a bit more secure, cutting out these small costs will make a massive difference.

Love,

Charlotte
