The New Year has bought some exciting opportunities to The Home That Made Me so I decided it was about time to stop working on the sofa in my pyjamas (it probably still will be in my pyjamas, I’m not going to lie!). A space where I can sit & focus on the content that I’m writing without distractions (apart from the two children that seem to have turned the leg space between my desk into a den).
As you’ll see, it was previously grey but I gave it a warmer look with my old friend Wilko’s ‘coastline‘ paint.
I’m super excited to show you all the finished look & have to say how absolutely over the moon I am with it.
Firstly, how incredible is Mr The Home That Made Me for getting this door sign made for me as a surprise? He somehow managed to find out the fonts used on my blog & had it specially made. It’s officially THTMM HQ! It was from here.
As you walk in through the door you’ll see my biggest achievement to date – my Style At Home magazine front cover! I may have something even more exciting up my sleeve for later this year to join this eek.
Now let me talk about this gorgeous feature wall mural from Pixers which is applied like a sticker using a material called Pixerstick. I am a bit of a wallpaper commitment-phobe seeing as I change my mind every 5 minutes (hence redecorating constantly) & didn’t want to be tied in to something that I may potentially fall out of love with in 6 months or want to change. It’s also brilliant as you don’t get the dreaded shrinkage or joining lines!
Pixers sell wall stickers & murals in an absolutely huge array of designs, for example, typing in ‘dandelion’ comes up with a whopping 3125 designs/products! You really could spend hours/days/weeks looking through for the perfect design OR you can be super clever & even upload your own design/photo (high resolution) to be designed into a sticker for you.
I went with this design which was simple yet elegant. With the help of ‘Mumma The Home That Made Me’ (you may have seen earlier on Instagram stories) we popped it up & it took around 15 minutes even with cutting round the plug socket.
I’ve popped some of my ever growing hoard of interior magazines in to this wicker basket from Thomas & Lucia (this is a local shop but I think they post) which will hopefully give me inspiration when I’ve got writers block.
Moving on to the actual work space is this Ikea Liatorp desk which I picked up off Gumtree for £100.00 instead of paying £250.00 brand new. Is it me or is Ikea furniture getting more expensive?
I wanted a desk chair that was comfy enough for me to snuggle up on with my legs crossed as well as look pretty. You may have seen me lust over the Dunelm collete button back armchair back when I did my spare bedroom project designs & I just knew I had to have it somewhere in my home. It’s super comfortable & the perfect size. I popped on one of the cushions I made back last year.
On my desk I have my trusty Apple Macbook Air & Canon printer surrounded by pretty yet practical items to accessorise.
The rose gold tray, document case, ringbinger, sticky note pad & this adorable little bunny with rose gold paperclips are all from Wilko who have the most amazing stationary at affordable prices.
I popped all my pens in to this pen holder from GLTC – who says it’s just for kids?
On top of my printer is my inspirational books including my absolute favourite ‘The life changing magic of not giving a f**k’ by Sarah Knight. If you haven’t read in then you need to – it’ll change your life.
My desk wouldn’t be complete without a candle so I’ve moved my Jo Malone ‘Peony & Blush Suede‘ in here as it is such a light feminine fragrance that I feel should be enjoyed by me, myself & I.
The hydrangeas & vase are both from Neptune Home which I normally have sitting on my dining table but look so lovely in here.
You may notice I’ve fitted shutters in the bay window which give privacy as well as looking absolutely gorgeous. These were DIY from California Shutters as seen in my blog post here. We had a slight issue in that we actually measured the height wrong but this was easily fixed by popping some timber at the bottom to boost them up & glossing it which now just looks like part of the window sill. Lesson learnt: measure, measure then measure again!
Finally on the other wall I had my lovely Insta-friend Meghan from Loupy Designs (who also did the RJV in Rory’s room & E in Elsa’s room) to design me something completely bespoke. With the font from my blog she created these & painted them – how absolutely beautiful are they?!
Hope you all love the new room as much as I do – if you have any questions at all then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
