Create A Luxury Hotel Bathroom At Home

My ensuite bathroom is definitely my little slice of paradise. The place I go to when i’ve had a particularly challenging day & need to unwind. It’s amazing what a soak in that beautiful bath can do to declutter my mind, lift my spirits & banish stress.

This bathroom was inspired by our anniversary trip to The Pig in the forest (see blog post here). The most incredible hotel, with the most incredible bathroom. I loved it so much (we stayed for 1 night & must have had 3 baths each – sorry about the water bill!) that I came home with a rolltop bath shaped hole in my heart.

After much nagging & persuading, my husband finally gave in & told me we could makeover our ensuite. You can see my full makeover blog post here

Spot little man photobombing me!

As with everything, the devils in the details so even if you can’t start ripping out your bathroom suite or replacing your tiles; I’m going to show you how to achieve that beautiful luxury hotel style bathroom with accessories.

Scented candles are an essential part of every bath time & my theory is ‘the more the merrier’. I tend to actually turn the main lights off & just have a few candles to create a calming ambiance. Obviously not ideal when you’re trying to shave your legs but it’s winter now so who has time for that? Werewolf legs all the way.

Bath products – now I would love to use Jo Malone bath oils, but I have two children who need food on the table & clothes on their back, so unfortunately for me that isn’t realistic. I do however love delicious smelling bubble bath (i’m a big fan of more natural smelling products, like coconut). I tend to go for bottles that look nice as i’m weird like that. Fashion over function all the way. I always use Aussie shampoo & conditioner but I only wash my hair once a week….i’m sure a lot of you will gasp at that little fact & call me a dirty smelly cow BUT my hair doesn’t actually get that greasy anymore. Also it’s nothing a spray of dry shampoo can’t fix.

A bath caddy is something that every bath should have, especially a rolltop. I was amazed when I found this beautiful wooden one for £6.99 from Home Bargains when they are about £30 online. Not only is it practical for popping bits when you are having a soak (my phone is attached to me half the time & I love browsing Instagram whilst in the bath….risking a soggy iPhone!) but it’s also perfect for displaying pretty bits. Also, where on earth are you supposed to put your glass of Prosecco & book without one?

Rolled towels are something that give off a luxury bathroom feel. I actually bought these towels purposely for ‘decoration only’ purposes which is my husbands ultimate bug bear. They were about £2 each from Home Bargains.

I actually bought this ‘Verveine’ The White Company set brand new in box off gumtree for a bargain £6! I use it as display mainly as i’m too cheap to actually use it.

Beautiful storage solutions are essential. All bathrooms will have things that you don’t want on show or that would look cluttered if left out on the sides. I got this lovely storage basket from B&M for £2.99 which is perfect for keeping my bath products in. Husband uses our main bathroom rather than this one as he’s a shower rather than bath type of person so his (plus any of mine that aren’t essential) are all kept in the large unit I upcycled/painted in there – see here.

Stacked toilet roll is another ‘decorate using things you need/use’ but making it look asthetically pleasing. Although I can’t guarantee the male of the species will replace the toilet roll they take (not that they’d bother even putting it on the holder…apparently that’s too much effort so the floor is where it’ll live until I sort it out) so you may have to keep your eyes peeled so you don’t end up with a half missing toilet roll tower.

Use glass jars as storage. Places like Home Bargains, B&M & The Range always sell pretty glass jars that I seem to buy but not really have any actual use for. These look classy & add a touch of luxury as well as having those much needed essential items to hand. I popped cotton wool pads, cotton wool balls & ear buds in mine but the skies the limit.

Accessorise with flowers, either real (humid loving orchids always do really well in bathrooms) or fake. I have an artificial peony set which was £10 from next & comes in cream or lilac.

One of the most important parts of a luxury bathroom is luxury towels – nobody wants to climb out of the bath & wrap a thin scratchy towel round them. Invest in quality as they’ll last for years & again are brilliant for accessorising especially if you have a colour pop.

Finally, what do all hotel bathrooms have in common? They are sparkling clean. I always tend to spray the bath & rinse it out after every use as well as whip round the sink with some wipes & pop some bleach down the toilet which takes 2 minutes if you keep on top of it rather than scrubbing soap scum stains off for half an hour if you leave it. I will be blogging about my top bathroom cleaning tips soon.

Love, Charlotte x

    Hi Charlotte
Your ensuite is gorgeous. I am painting my bathroom at the minute and looking a few wee bits. Where are the Angel wings from please? Also is the bath tray a recent purchase in HB? Might have to take a trip to my nearest?
    Thanks
    Ashleigh

Oh lovely Nicola….people think that in order to get this look they have to start ripping tiles off whilst your husbands at work then completely redo it before he gets home (which I did in our last house….don't ask). All thats needed is a few pretty little touches to add that luxury feel xx

Hi Ashleigh, thanks so much for reading. The angel wings were a tk maxx/homesense find unfortunately but I know my lovely IG friend Jemma had some similar ones on her website http://www.jemimaslocket.co.uk if you want to have a look. I bought the bath caddy about 2 months ago now but I think they still stock the range, it's called 'Bamboo' I think. Hope that helps x
