Interior Predictions For 2017

Every year, websites across the world predict what they think the top trends for that year is going to be. From fashion brands to modest interior bloggers such as myself, it’s all about looking ahead to make sure you’re one step ahead of the competition.

I had the exciting job of going to some of my favourite homeware brands Spring/Summer 17 press shows towards the end of last year & so got a sneak peek at what the large companies are predicting people to want to purchase back when they design & manafacturer months & months before they are released for sale.

One of the main focuses on predicting what people are going to be lusting over is the world of Pinterest. People lose hours/days pinning their favourite images or dream interiors so surely that’s the first place to visit to see what’s hot, & what’s not.

I’ve decided that I’m going to make some predictions of my own so that Mr THTMM can’t moan at me any longer & my time spent browsing interior magazines/Instagram/Pinterest will come in handy.

So, without further delay here goes –

Grey is here to stay – the amount of people who have got the grey bug on Instagram is through the roof. From finding the perfect grey shade of paint (one of the hardest to get right due to underlying tones meaning it can end up looking blue/purple/pink) to carpets & all that comes in-between.

Hygge is huge – the new ‘in’ word & concept…if you haven’t heard of it then where on earth have you been? It’s all about the Scandinavian principles of keeping cosy in our homes & savouring the small things for better mental health.

Tropical is trending – from wallpaper adorned with large palm leaves to surrounding yourself with nature in the form of hanging plants or a herb garden. 2017 is just going to increase its popularity & botanical is one of the big players.

Marble madness – marble has been around for centuries but is beginning to be making a comeback through designers across the world. From marble worktops in kitchens to bathrooms. Team it with blush pink for the perfect feminine look.

Blue is back – I’m going to predict that this is going to be the colour of the year. Think deep, dark & moody blues coupled with industrial elements such as copper below.

Calling for copper – without a doubt the material of 2016 & I predict it’s here to stay. From the most beautiful copper bed frame in the new Very SS17 collection to lighting & accessories.

Neutral is never ending – timeless as it is (& as converted as I am…) you can never go wrong with the calming hues of whites/beiges/greys/browns. As much as daring bright colours may appeal, I think i’ll be sticking with neutral for the foreseeable future regardless of bright contrasting trends.

What do you predict for 2017? Do you have any decorating plans for the year ahead?

Love,

I love grey but I'm really quite cautious of it, simply because it can easily look to 'Essexy' when that isn't the intention at all!
