Curing The January Blue’s Within Your Home

January is by far the most depressing month of the year for so many of us. It begins straight after the excitement & rush which is Christmas & New Year with a crash back to reality when it’s all over & work is beckoning. Not only that but it’s cold & miserable outside which means seeing the light of day for full time office workers is pretty much impossible. Combine that with the dreaded New Years resolutions of dieting & not drinking, as well as being on a tight budget after all those presents.

If like me you spend lots of time at home, it’s really important to try to keep perky & not fall for the ‘January Blue’s’ so let your home help you with these simple touches.

Buy yourself blooms – if your other half won’t buy them for you then treat yourself. Bring a hint of spring in (especially as tulips are around already this year!) to your home which is bound to cheer you up as well as add a bit of colour. Everybody loves fresh flowers.

Have a rearrange – one of my favourite things to do is rearranging furniture to give a room a completely different feel. It’s inspiring when you make changes & your home doesn’t have to be the one missing out whilst you’re on the path of self-improvement. Swap things round from other rooms, try a different layout or rethink a display.

Give your kitchen a health-kick – our kitchens are vital if we’re to succeed on our weight loss missions so consider giving your kitchen a bit of a health kick by clearing out your cupboard, fridge & freezer of any bad food (donate it to your local food bank), bin anything which is passed it’s sell by date & then restock with fresh fruit & veg.

Have a New Year ‘Spring’ clean – who says a big clean has to wait until Spring? I always start a New Year feeling fresh & motivated, which can soon start slipping so keep yourself on top form by making use of the feeling for a bit clean & declutter. You’ll be amazed how great you’ll feel getting rid of things in your home which are simply taking up space.

Plan something big – give yourself something to look forward to by planning something exciting for your home such as an extension, kitchen remodel or even redecorating your bedroom. You can then spend your evening curled up under a blanket with a cup of tea on Pinterest dreaming up plans.

Make it cosy – nothing beats getting home from being out in the cold, especially when you can climb into a warm bath or on a sofa in front of a fire. Think Hygge; surround yourself with plump cushions & furry throws.

Love,
