Home Tour – Rory’s Room

As soon as I found out I was expecting a boy I started planning what his nursery would look like. Hours were spent trawling through Pinterest & eventually I had a strong image in my mind of what I wanted the room to look like.

We actually started decorating this room in January (we didn’t move in until March) as if you didn’t know already, we bought Baylyn House off my mum who had built a house of her own to downsize to. Both this room along with Elsa’s room were unused & empty so we took the opportunity to get them decorated when they went away for a long weekend. We worked tirelessly (me being 6 months pregnant) to get both rooms ready so that at least when we moved in that Elsa wouldn’t be disturbed & could settle plus if the baby came early we’d have everything sorted.

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of the ‘before’ of this room but it was bright yellow with lots of pine furniture & felt very dark. Painting it white instantly made it feel so much bigger.

Paint colour is Homebase value ‘brilliant white’ £7.99 available here – this is NOT brilliant white at all though and does have quite a faded/yellow tone to it which I personally like.
Grey stripe wallpaper is also from Homebase £12.99 per roll (now discontinued)
Grey black out roller blind from Ikea Tupplur range available here in lots of different sizes

Star patchwork quilt available here or contact @perfectlylovelyjen

Large ‘RJV’ wooden letters from @loupy_designs (40cm in times new roman painted in Annie Sloan Paris Grey)

Chevron blanket over chair from Next £20 available here
Monogram cushion from Matalan £8 available here

Squirrel heart from Peonie Cole Textiles £8.50 available here or contact @peoniecoletextiles

Baby blue jellycat from John Lewis £16 available here

Crate from Dunelm £7.99 – comes in 3 sizes, this is medium. I painted the middle panel with chalk board paint available here

Personalised star basket from My 1st Years (see review here) £40 available here in many different colours/designs

Chest of drawers from the Ikea Hemnes range £115 available here

Wooden barn star from The Range £5.99 available here in blue or white shabby chic

Baby clay prints done at The Clay Studio in Christchurch – see website here

You’ll notice in My Top 10 Baby Buys that an armchair is an absolute must for any nursery for the middle of the night feeds – we chose the grey Ikea Strandmon wingback chair £195 available here which is stylish as well as super comfortable. It also makes a real statement to the room.

Shelves are from Ikea Ribba range £7.90 available here
Rory illustration from my talented Australian best friend @pennylikespaper similar copy available here (although this was designed just for little man!)

I absolutely love this room & feel it would suit a little boy for a good few years before it became too ‘babyish’….not that I won’t end up decorating way before then as you all know what i’m like!

Please note: Anything that I haven’t tagged in this was bought a while ago & so is no longer sold/I can’t find it on websites anymore OR we received as gifts. I’ve tagged where I can 🙂

Love, Charlotte x

I'm loving your friday home tour blogs, i always look out for them. I was really looking forward to seeing your hallway as thats the area we're on with at the moment (just waiting for the plaster to dry out ) but this tour did not disappoint, yet another simply beautiful room – I have always been a bit wary of completely neautral decor schemes thinking they would be boring but your house just proves if they are dressed right they look anazing and not boring at all! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the house xxx

Oh no, i've just seen this! So sorry about the late reply. I absolutely promise that the hallway will be up next Friday (18th) – I was waiting on some prints. See I have the other problem, i'm wary of anything that ISN'T neutral decor as it's much easier to inject a bit of colour & personality into an already neutral room than one that's already bursting. Thanks for taking the time to read & comment – I really appreciate it x
