Home Tour – The Lounge

Open plan living really suits us as a family. I absolutely love cooking so the kitchen being open plan to all our living areas is perfect for life with young children when you have to make dinner but need to keep an eye on what plugs they are sticking their fingers in. We also do a lot of entertaining so being able to socialise with people in the lounge area as well as prepare food is perfect. It’s also brilliant for being able to catch up on TV programs whilst pottering around.

The lounge area is where I spend the majority of my time, usually sat on my Ipad whilst Elsa demands to watch Cbeebies before being dragged into the conservatory to play in the teepee.

BEFORE –

We haven’t actually decorated this room since moving – I thought I hated the textured feature wallpaper & had planned to rip it off straight away when we moved in however after seeing it with all our furniture decided it actually gave a bit of character to the room. I’m not sure where it’s from though unfortunately!

We ordered our sofas online (Hartfield Large Sofa Hobart Mink Light Feet from Homebase – they were £749 each however they were running a 20% off all indoor furniture offer at the time) before we moved in to Baylyn House, having never seen them before which is quite risky considering they could have turned up hard & uncomfortable. I couldn’t find anything I liked the look of without either a monstrous price tag or a ridiculously long waiting time. Luckily the leap of faith paid off as they are gorgeous as well as being super comfy. The only draw back is the material is hard to clean (you cannot ‘spot’ clean as it leaves water ring marks so have to clean the entire surface of the cushion) which isn’t the most practical with young children, however style always wins for me oops.

The footstool was ordered once we knew the actual colour of the sofas considering the online picture wasn’t very clear. This was £135 off ebay with a choice of fabric (this is Laura Ashley – wool Highland Check in Natural) from seller serrinainteriors & we also got similar legs to the sofa out of many available.

We had the rug in our dining room in our old house which was from Ebay (can’t find the seller anymore unfortunately!).

The TV cabinet is from Ikea (Liatorp £225) & I absolutely love it. It’s a great height for stopping children from watching TV about 5cm from the screen & damaging their eyesight as well as not being too high so you get a bad neck when sat on the sofa’s. It’s also brilliant for storage. We bought 6x wicker baskets from Ikea to keep things pretty yet organised too. The lantern is from The Range.

These drawers match the storage units in the conservatory & the hallway which we had in our old house from The Range, again brilliant storage. I always get asked how my house is so tidy with children, well the answer is storage solutions (blog post on that coming up!). The lamp is from The Range, clock from Matalan & orchid totally dying (how the hell do you keep them alive…).

This large wicker storage basket is from Thomas & Lucia (local to me however they do have a website & deliver – Grey rattan round log basket – £36.00) which houses blankets to snuggle up but would be brilliant toy storage, then i’ve popped a blanket over the top to cover the contents as well as add style. This blanket is from Laura Ashley – Cranbourne natural wool throw £40.50. Floor lamp from the Range.

I bought this nest of tables off Gumtree for £5 & gave them a lick of Annie Sloan paint. The frame is from Next, large dome lavender candle from Sainsbury’s & coaster set from Next.

Finally the beautiful framed calligraphy from @gingerhearts of our first dance lyrics (Ellie Goulding – how long will I love you) which is one of my favourite parts of the room.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks room tour 🙂 next week will be the conservatory!

Love, Charlotte x
